The bullfighter Miguel Ángel Perera and the Chair "Ignacio Sánchez Mejías" of Communication of the University of Seville want to pay a tribute on December 13th to the Generation of 27 on the occasion of the ninety anniversary of its conformation as such, a fact that is situated in the act of homage to Luis de Góngora held at the Ateneo de Sevilla in December 1927 and where many of the most notable components of that intellectual movement, considered as the Silver Age of Spanish literature, participated.
The famous photo that we reviewed in this article of our blog reflects the quality of the literati gathered in the act of 1927, namely, starting from the left:
Rafael Alberti, Federico Gacía Lorca, Juan Chabás, Mauricio Bacarisse, José María Platero (president of the Literature section of the Ateneo de Sevilla), Manuel Blasco Garzón (president of the Ateneo de Sevilla), Jorge Guillén, José Bergamín, Damaso Alonso and Gerardo Diego.
Without forgetting the absentees, Luis Cernuda, Vicente Aleixandre and Manuel Altolaguirre.
This act of 1927 was promoted and paid for by the bullfighter and multidisciplinary artist, Ignacio Sánchez Mejías, a friend of poets, directors, singers and other artists of the time. In addition to the lectures and mythical recitations at the Ateneo de Sevilla, which were hailed by the attending public, Sánchez Mejías invited to spend a few fun days / nights at his farm "Pino Montano" to the different literati.
The Ateneo hispalense will be the scene of this new meeting in which they will participate, among others, the tenor Plácido Domingo, the actor Juan Echanove, the philosopher Fernando Savater, the flamenco singer José Mercé, the poet Carlos Marzal and the director of the Cultural Center Foundation of Belem in Lisbon, Elissio Summavielle. They embody the backbone of that event, which will be completed in the coming days with the names of more personalities that will join him.
The idea of Miguel Ángel Perera and the Chair "Ignacio Sánchez Mejías" is to try to repeat the steps taken on that occasion and bring together the greatest artistic and disciplinary variety of the current moment. A great idea that will remove such an exalted generation of art, and will demonstrate, once again, the great historical relationship between bullfighting and patriotic art.
