Arenas of Arles or the bullring in Arles is a Roman amphitheater in this town in southern France.

It has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

It has a capacity for 14,000 people.

It was built around 80-90. It is built shortly after the amphitheater in Rome, from which it takes its features, drainage systems, central scene elliptical, with supporting stands, in this case, two levels. It has a length of 136 meters, ie, greater than the Roman amphitheater in Nimes dimension.

There have been restoration work in 2006.

Over time, during the Roman Empire it was used for gladiatorial contests and special commemorations of the Roman victories over the Gauls. Over the years it grew into a small city-fortress. In 1840 he qualified as a historical monument of France, at the initiative of Prospero Merimmé, who is also inspector of historical monuments since 1834.

This building houses bullfights, musical and theatrical, forming an essential part of the cultural life of the city. This arena was inspiration for such renowned painters such as Van Gogh, who made a picture of the spectators in the amphitheater in 1888.

Dates: The main fairs are held: The Easter Pentecost in Mach and Rice in September.
